It's been a tough decision, but I've decided to go laptop-less in Japan. My desktop replacement is too heavy to be that portable, and taking my work laptop is an invitation to do... work. Instead, I'll rely exclusively on my ipod touch and Nintendo DS for browsing the web and mobile posting via hotspots, and my Motorola Q 9h for cell coverage (I've got mobile blogging software up and running). Definetely take my digital camera and extra memory cards.

I'm thinking I should get some portable apps loaded on my thumbdrive for internet cafe use.

Anyone have suggestions or stories of an extended vacation without their computer?

Work is as productive as it ever was. I'm happy for the sun break, but having a window office means it gets too bright. Hmmm, I should post a couple of pictures.

Posted an update on my site on the subject of knitting, tea and the web. It only sounds more exciting than it is. Which got me to create a an LJ RSS feed for my posts at nil8r.net and (aptly named [info]nil8rnet ).

I still haven't figured out the focus of my blog there, but I suspect it will evolve into my writing on subjects that I'm willing to have publicly published (ie. gaming, scooters, general life observations, tech, fashion, or whatever else I'm passionate about in that moment). What I don't want to focus on is work (see my operation email blog for that or LJ) or highly personal subjects, which is a better fit for conversation or LJ-friends).

I noticed that my Windows Live account isn't sync'ing to my phone anymore (seems to be a known bug w/ Win Mobile 6 and Motorola Q). Not certain if it's the ATT/Motorola software or a Windows Live Account problem. My workaround is that I have hotmail forwarding my email to my nil8r.net account. Which is actually more convenient as I check email on my mobile devices 80% of the time instead of the web. I also check my bluemel at gmail account regularly and haven't had any sync issues so far with any non-hotmail accounts. The problem with having a work/play combined phone (or rather the inconvenience) is that Expedia has strict password policies, so my phone auto-locks and requires a password to do anything other than answer a call or dismiss a meeting reminder. At least the full qwerty keyboard makes typing that Caps/alphanumeric/symbol password a bit easier. I still have my work blackberry, but my Q has superior doc handling capabilities. So, essentially the blackberry is now a glorified pager for the email ops team.

It makes me a bit nervous to think how dependant I've become on technology. I need my debit cards to purchase necessities, from accounts that I rely on auto-deposit to keep me "in the green," or the web/auto pay features in order to keep my household and lifestyle functioning (bills, yo!). Heck, I rely on the web/tech in order to have groceries delivered, not to mention the other types of online shopping I do. It's a lot more of a co-dependant relationship than when I was a kid and just did my homework on my Apple IIe because it was available.

Saturday, [info]zeldatheblue turned three. I spoiled her with a new purple velvet collar, feather toys, treats, and grass.

I think she approved.

It's the end of a very stressful month, and yet I'm at my most relaxed. I suspect it has something to do with the tranquility of sitting in Hawaii, drinking a cup of real Kona coffee, feeling the light, warm breeze of the wind running through the coconut trees, or perhaps it has something to do with the view of a landscaped waterfall and distant laugh of friends, while surrounded by the opulence that a roughly $20M house on the ocean can provide.

Apparently my old Xbox Live account is version 1.0, which I didn't renew when my old Visa CC was discontinued (yay, identity fraud). So, it has since been permanently locked out and non-recoverable.

If you have Nil8r on your friends list, please update/add Xbox Nil8r.

In other news, I have a 360 Elite and it fits in my scooter trunk.

I pretty much spent the weekend on Günter.

In spite of the name, it isn't a Vespa-only rally. I've created a new photo album on nil8r.net where you can re-live these and other amazing moments:

Mel's new scooter jacket
Views of Seattle and beyond
Scooter lineup
A lone Vino 125 in a sea of Vespas
Hello Kitty scooter and sidecar
Bikes on Boats

The event is over, and I'm a little sore from all of the riding. I can't believe I put 200 miles on the scoot in one week. That's double the amount I put on all winter. It also means, I'm getting more comfortable riding in "non-perfect" conditions... like rain, corkscrew/windy roads, potholes in the road, low bridges, hills... typical Seattle conditions. A far cry from the scared-out-of-my-mind feeling of driving it off the lot last year.
